The amount of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, and methane that is generated by our actions.
Increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide are responsible for about two-thirds of the total energy imbalance that is causing Earth's temperature to rise.
The quality of the air that we breathe, and the water that we drink are directly impacted by the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Plants and animals are both impacted because they are unable to keep up with the rate at which the climate is changing.
Our food sources are dependent on land and natural resources such as farms, and they have been experiencing lower crop yields resulting in drastic price increases for us, the consumers.
Increase temperatures
Changing precipitation patterns
Rising sea levels
Ocean acidification
Melting glaciers
There are many carbon calculators that are available to use. We chose this app because of its ease of use. You are welcome to try any other calculators.
This app easily helps you calculate your carbon footprint which helps you measure your impact on the environment, and it also helps you adopt Green Habits. As they say, “CARBN simplifies climate action with Ten Green Habits, helping you adapt your lifestyle in an achievable way to reduce your carbon footprint”. It does this with just a few questions about your lifestyle and estimates your carbon footprint. The app also helps you identify areas of improvements.
We found the app to be extremely easy to understand, and to use. It rewards you for your efforts in reducing your carbon footprint, but when it isn’t possible to reduce your carbon footprint, the app helps you find ways to offset your impact by subscribing to projects that remove an equivalent amount of emissions from the atmosphere, helping you go carbon neutral.

We came across this Swiss company, Climeworks, specializing in carbon dioxide air capture technology. The company filters the CO2 directly from the ambient air through an adsorption-desorption process. They are basically able to remove CO2 from the air and put it back in the ground where it belongs, no longer contributing to global warming. The results are immediate.
Climeworks offers multiple subscription options, including one that you can customize to suit your lifestyle.

For longer term results, we cannot say enough about the positive effects of planting more tress. Trees give off oxygen that we need to breathe. They reduce the amount of storm water, which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways and even reduce the effects of flooding, but for the purpose of this article, we love the idea of planting more trees because trees use carbon dioxide to build their trunks, branches, roots and leaves.
They are natural carbon dioxide absorbers and help clean the air. One mature tree is capable of absorbing up to 22 lbs of carbon dioxide per year. Of course different species of trees absorb different amounts of carbon, and the age of the tree also plays an important role in the amount of carbon absorbed so we may not see the results as quickly as we need them, but for the long run, they still play a critical role in the health of our planet including our own health.
Take Action:
There’s a lot that we can do to improve the quality of our lives, and the lives of future generations. There’s a lot that we can do to improve the health of our planet. We can be climate positive.
We can take action now and not allow for another day to pass by without being conscious, and active about our crabon footprint.
“There are risks and costs to action. But they are far less than the long range risks of comfortable inaction.”
FACTS:
It is crucial that we transition to clean renewable energy sources.
In transitioning to clean renewable energy sources, it is great to have the knowledge that we currently have that helps us to reduce our carbon footprint, and the tools and the technology that helps us remove the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
This is an opportunity that we can encourage in order to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celcius, compared to pre-industrial levels.
Businesses, cities, governments should include carbon dioxide removal in their sustainability strategy because of its effectiveness.
We can utilize this knowledge and technology while we transition to more circular based economies.
Some of the best ways to reduce your carbon footprint:
Consume local and seasonal products
Limit meat consumption
Select fish from sustainable fishing
Use reusable shopping bags
Avoid excessive plastic packaging (Including water bottles)
